Vietnam’s coconut industry continues to maintain remarkable growth momentum. In the first half of 2025, export turnover reached over USD 520 million, up more than 20% compared to the same period in 2024. The key export items include fresh coconuts, coconut oil and coconut milk, cosmetic products, processed foods, and coconut-based handicrafts.

Notably, the peak export season usually falls in the third and fourth quarters. The fact that export turnover has already grown strongly since the beginning of the year is a positive sign, reflecting high international demand for Vietnamese coconuts.

According to the Vietnam Coconut Association, total export value in 2025 could reach USD 1.2 billion, exceeding the USD 1.1 billion achieved in 2024. This marks an important milestone, positioning coconuts as one of Vietnam’s most promising agricultural sectors.

Alongside export growth, domestic coconut prices have also surged. While in 2023 dried coconuts averaged only VND 5,000 per fruit, by the third quarter of 2025 prices had risen to nearly VND 15,000 per fruit.

On the international market, Vietnamese fresh coconuts retail in supermarkets at prices ranging from VND 60,000 to 190,000 per fruit, highlighting the substantial profit margin for exports.

Despite its bright outlook, Vietnam’s coconut industry still faces many challenges, such as limited harvesting and storage processes that risk quality loss, a lack of logistics and advanced processing technologies, the absence of a strong global brand, and increasingly stringent international standards on food safety, environment, and labor.

To sustain and expand its market share, Vietnam’s coconut industry needs to invest in modern technologies for cultivation, care, harvesting, and preservation. It should also promote deep processing to create high-value products such as functional foods, cosmetics, and green materials. Building a national brand for coconut products will be essential to enhance value and credibility in global markets. Additionally, trade promotion should be intensified, and free trade agreements leveraged to expand export opportunities.

With growth exceeding 20% in just the first half of the year, Vietnam’s coconut industry stands at a golden opportunity to strengthen its global position. By continuing to innovate, improve quality, and develop branding, Vietnamese coconuts have the potential to become one of the country’s key agricultural exports—bringing both economic value and contributing to national image promotion.
